The Dewan Rakyat (DR) is the lower chamber of the Malaysian Parliament. Consisting of 222 democratically elected members from federal constituencies, the power and potential to shape the country’s future is vested in them. They exercise their authority through legislation, by the means of passing Bills in its chamber. Indeed, given its integral nature to the administration of the Federation, it is also the only organization empowered with the authority to amend the Federal Constitution by means of constitutional amendments.

 

For their part in service to the Federation, it is up to the Members of Parliament (MPs) to debate, discuss and decide on various matters and to consequently issue legislation as deemed so necessary. It is in pursuit of the holistic goal in the improvement of the prosperity of the Rakyat and to secure the nation’s vision to be a developed country in the years to come.
