The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) or C1 is one of the six main committees at the General Assembly of the United Nations. DISEC is a global forum for countries to address issues of war, armed conflict, and armaments, whereby their resolutions are politically and morally binding, yet not legally.
DISEC deals with disarmament and international security matters. The work of the committee falls under 7 thematic clusters which includes Nuclear Weapons, other weapons of Mass Destruction, Outer Space (disarmament aspect), Conventional Weapons, Regional Disarmament and Security, other Disarmament Measures and International Security, Disarmament Machinery. Like most UN bodies, the committee tries to work through consensus whenever possible, to ensure as much international support for its recommendations as possible. But often compromise is impossible, a reality reflected in voting patterns.
